The Day Queen Played St James Park Newcastle 1986 - Freddie Mercury Brian May Roger Taylor John Deacon
On the 9th July 1986 Queen came to Newcastle Upon Tyne and played St James Park the football ground of Newcastle Utd.
38,000 fans turned up to watch Freddie Mercury John Deacon Roger Taylor and Brian May
Queen were no strangers to the North East Of England having played Newcastle Mayfair 1973 on one occasion Sunderland Locarno a few mile up the road
But more regularly at Newcastle City hall most notably in 1979 on the Crazy Tour
Tickets were £13 and ticket touts were selling tickets for the princely sum of £25.
The only good quality footage of the show is from local news cameras that covered the story and we hear Queen playing One Vision with newsman talking over the top and an uninterrupted A Kind Of Magic. There is poor quality footage of the show available on YouTube.
The rest of the footage is from the ITV local news and Look North programme with Mike Neville. Outside the fans are interviewed about their love of Queen and ticket prices. There is also rare footage of Brian May interviewed about Children’s Charity and Queen;s donation of £50,000
